Receptionist Job Vacancy

We are looking for an experienced Hotel Receptionist to provide excellent front of house service to guests.

Main duties:
• dealing with bookings by phone, e-mail, letter, fax or face-to-face
• completing procedures when guests arrive and leave
• choosing rooms and handing out keys
• dealing with guest invoices and payment
• taking and passing on messages to guests
• dealing with special requests from guests
• answering questions about what the hotel offers and the surrounding area
• dealing with complaints or problems
• answering the telephone with a polite and friendly manner

Sous Chef Job Vacancy

We now have a great opportunity for an experienced Sous Chef to join our team reporting to the Head Chef. This is a full-time and permanent position

Our ideal candidate will have previous experience working as a Chef de Partie or Sous Chef in a smaller unit.

The candidate will have the food knowledge, is able to consistently produce high quality food, works under pressure and can deputise in the Head Chefs absence. The ideal candidate will work with the hotel management team to ensure consistent high standards in both service and kitchen management.
Our candidate will be responsible for:

  • Deputise for the Head chef in his absence
  • Assisting in the running of the kitchen on a day to day basis
  • Ensuring consistency of produce throughout the kitchen
  • Being in charge of kitchen management (food purchasing and storage)
  • Controlling food costs and food wastage to achieve maximum creativity
  • Lead and inspire team to ensure that kitchen runs smoothly at all times
  • Supervise service ensuring presentation of food is compliant with restaurant standards
  • Supporting the Head Chef in meeting targets with labour and costs
  • Compliance with Health and Safety (food labelling and temperature controls)
  • Creation of new recipes and write menus
  • Maintaining a safe and hygienic environment

In addition candidate must have:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Exceptional culinary skills with creative ability and passion about food
  • Good commercial awareness, cost control and meeting budgetary targets
  • Strong and inspiring leadership with excellent people management skills
  • Food Safety qualification with full understanding of maintaining HACCP and Health and Safety Standards
  • Focus on continuous improvement and sustainability

The Holt Hotel appoints new Executive Head Chef

Although Karl Brown is no stranger to The Holt Hotel having worked as sous chef  at the hotel  over several years, Karl’s appointment as Executive Head Chef marks a new turn in his career and the hotel’s culinary direction

Karl has extensive international and regional experience having worked in several high profile posts in South Africa and Keswick, Liverpool, The Isle of Man, Bury and Devizes. A native of Liverpool, Karl attend school and college there

“To be appointed Executive Head Chef at The Holt Hotel is a major step forward in my career,” says Karl. “The hotel is well known for imaginative and fresh seasonal cuisine and with my brigade, I will be developing this further. The high standards that we produce for our table d’hôte restaurant and bar food will continue to be replicated in our extensive banquet, function and wedding event where we can cater up to 260 covers.”
